Attempted to renew the certificate on my mail server yesterday, but found out that my 1024 certificate could not be renewed by GoDaddy. The reason for not allowing renewal is that Microsoft will no longer accept root certificates with RSA 1024-bit modulus of any expiration. I had to revoke my 1024 certificate and issue a new certificate request with 2048 bit encryption. This caused webmail access to the server to be offline during the upgrade process, but it was only down for a shot time while I removed the old certificate, create a new certificate request, uploaded the request to GoDaddy, received and installed the new certificate.
